Oxford SmartZone announces price changes

The Oxford SmartZone scheme, which includes bus companies Stagecoach, Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel, Carousel Buses and Pulhams, has announced changes to its ticket prices, effective from Sunday, March 30, 2025.

The SmartZone scheme, known for its brand-new fleet of 0% emission electric buses and convenient multi-operator ticketing, will see its first price increase since March 2024. The new prices are designed to reflect the rising costs of operating the bus network while continuing to offer great value for passengers.

In a joint statement the Oxford SmartZone operators said: “We remain committed to delivering a great service at an affordable price for our customers. Despite the challenging economic environment, we have worked hard to minimise fare increases and ensure our tickets continue to offer excellent value for money.

“7-Day SmartZone tickets can still be bought on the bus at time of travel using a smartcard with the entire product range available through operator travel shops, websites and apps, which offer improved real-time tracking of buses and journey planning tools. This is part of our ongoing commitment to making bus travel more convenient and accessible for our customers.

“With the phased roll out of electric buses over the last few months, most of the routes in the Oxford SmartZone are now fully electric. This initiative has already significantly improved air quality and reaffirms our commitment to investing in the communities we serve.”

The national £3 single journey cap remains in place and customers are encouraged to visit bus operator websites for full details.
